RABBIT HOLE series

This series of work relates to a metaphor for an entry into the unknown or a mentally disorientating place. For me I am suggesting the idea that a person; you, me anyone, is stuck with themselves and can’t escape what and who they are. This idea of who we are can be confusing and difficult at the best of times. The lesson is that, you can’t hide from reality and truth, you are forced down the proverbial Rabbit Hole where you can’t hide from yourself. This painting portrays elements and images from my past and present, usually chosen as reminders of what was and is in relation to me personally and as an artist. It’s part of my story. The images and therefore the meanings within the context of the work are hidden in the frenetic world of layered paint and brush strokes. The work engages the viewer by encouraging a closer look at what is hidden within the context of the canvas. What you find there might surprise you.
